The British Hen Welfare Trust

The British Hen Welfare Trust is an organization here in the UK that seeks to re-home hens that have “worked” at egg-laying for a number of years and are scheduled to be slaughtered.  You can adopt “one of the girls” (but be sure to pronounce that as “gels”) at a fairly decent price, and the organization provides support and advice on caring for your chickens.  This is such a delightfully British kind of thing! If we didn’t have 2 cats, and if we had a yard, I would totally adopt Dumpling! Check out their gallery of spoiled chickens — some of them are a laugh!

  1. Funny you should send this. There are cities in Metro Denver discussing letting people keep chickens in their backyards. Can you imagine that in Cherry Creek. somehow, I think they will “just say no.”
