Happy Summer Solstice!

This is a picture from a past summer solstice at Stonehenge. Some year I would like to be there for the real thing! Of course, it’s full of custumed weirdos, but I might just fit in.  This morning was too foggy to see the sunrise, unfortunately. But the day itself is turning out to be delightful. Now if only I wasn’t stuck behind a desk!

Today is the longest day of the year. From here on out the evenings start getting shorter, and the mornings come later. Since it’s been staying light here until about 9:30 pm, and getting bright in the mornings around 4, I’m actually looking forward to more reasonable hours!

  1. Why is it that the US weathermen and women ALWAYS refer to this as the first day of summer? This is actually Midsummer – - we’ve had 6 weeks, and 5 weeks more to come, right ??
